Getting Windows to boot from NVMe on an MSI Z790A Pro motherboard
Yes, it's quite specific information, but it's information that it took me weeks to figure out.
First, to utilize the M2.1 slot, you need an 11th-generation or above CPU. It's an LGA1200 motherboard, so 10th-gen CPUs are available that work fine with the board but don't see the M2.1 slot. It has to do with the CPU architecture and there are other videos that explain it better than I could.
Second, I had to update the BIOS. This was a bit scary, but went smoothly.
Third, the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) needs to be enabled. For sure for Win11, it may be for Win10 as well.
Fourth, Secure boot must be enabled and set to Standard.

There may be other BIOS settings that a tweaker may know far better than I, but this got me able to rebuild my system after many weeks of downtime.
...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyVrf3B4Quw
