a system for organizing tools in tiny workshops
I have been thinking a lot about organizing my balcony work space.
I have found very few videos or articles on the subject of organizing small workshop spaces.
My plan was to make small square containers and label them by categories of tools and materials. I made a list of 31 categories. Dividing everything I use into many separate specific categories is the heart of the system. Not all of my items will fit a small container, but most will and having them categorized will help me quickly find them.
small workshop tool organizational system
Labeled containers
1.) screwdrivers , 19.)jigsaw
2.) sockets, wrenches 20.)circular saw
3.)cutters, blades, snips, scissors 21.)drill and drill press
4.)hammer,punches,rivets,awls,chisels 22.)drawers
5.)measure, 23.)doors
6.) mark, 24.)windows, glass, screens
7.)glue, tape,epoxy, 25.)furniture
8.)wire,cord,string 26.)rod, angle, channel
9.)elastic, foam, cork,neoprene 27.)car, boats, and engines
10.)sand,grind,scrape 28.)appliances
11.)clamp 29.)garden
12.)paint,stain, 30) firearms
13.) heat, burn 31.)PVC
14.)electrical 32.) daily or most commonly used
16.)plumbing 33.) batteries
17.)cement 34.) compressor
18.)router 35. used often
36.) solar
Once I see if I like the storage system I will make wooden containers to replace the milk cartons. To always know where the tools should be returned I will eventually number the containers and make corresponding numbers on the tools.

Having a place for everything and everything in its place is the number one concept of organizing a small workspace

After viewing other workshops, I will be adding 5 other ideas to my workshop to make it even more efficient

1.)Put big items on wheels. by using wheels I can remove items to another area and open up the floor space. Also, if I store items behind shelves or tables that are not on wheels those items may as well be at the north pole as it will be a pain to get at them and they will become forgotten.
2.) use dust control. Power tools that do not have dust control do not get used a lot in small spaces and many projects never get built.Dust control is going to be a big priority in my workspace.
3. use vertical space. my shop uses its floor space poorly. I forget the floor space extends to the ceiling, I should take full advantage of it.
4. Pick projects and tools to fit my space and environment.
I am using a balcony in an apartment in a building with many other ten
...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCYcii8L12c
