Oklahoma Republicans Vote Down Bill To Outlaw Abuse Of Disabled School Students
Republicans in Oklahoma were given the chance this week to pass a law that would prohibit schools from engaging in corporal punishment of disabled students, but they just couldn't bring themselves to ban the practice for the most vulnerable students. 43 Republicans in the state legislature voted against the measure, showing that they are perfectly fine with allowing these students to be beaten by administrators. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this issue.

Link - https://www.newsweek.com/oklahoma-republicans-vote-let-teahers-hit-kids-disabilities-1787784

Check out our merch by visiting our store: https://www.buyrof.com/

Subscribe to our podcast: http://www.ROFPodcast.com

Become a member today!: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYWIEbibRcZav6xMLo9qWWw/join

Support us by becoming a monthly patron on Patreon, and help keep progressive media alive!: https://www.patreon.com/TheRingofFire

Spread the word! If so, the state of Oklahoma might be right for you this week. The Republicans who control the state legislature in Oklahoma voted against legislation that would've outlawed corporal punishment in public schools for children with disabilities. To phrase that another way, Republicans in Oklahoma voted to allow schools to continue beating children with disabilities. Now, to be fair, a plurality of Republicans did vote to ban the practice. You had 45 who voted to ban it, and 43 who voted against banning it. However, due to the idiotic rules in that state house, you had to have 51 votes in order to pass it. So it is still technically legal in the state of Oklahoma for a school administrator to haul in a kid with disabilities and beat them in their office as a form of corporal punishment.

What, what year is this? Right? Like wh wh where are we right now? It's the year 2023, and the state of Oklahoma, the Republicans in that state can't even bring themselves to vote against beating children, let alone children with disabilities, because hell, the bill only specified children with disabilities couldn't be beat. You could still beat the other kids, right? So you got that going for you, if that's your thing in Oklahoma, you Republicans, but no, you're like, no, let, let's bring in the kids with disability, those most disadvantaged children's, those the one, uh, the ones who are the most vulnerable. Yeah, let's just beat them until they start acting right? That's what Oklahoma Republicans decided this week, that they're okay if your child who has a disability, maybe it's a disability that prevents them from being able to actually sit still in classrooms. So when the teacher gets a little annoyed because Johnny's sitting there and he's, you know, not really paying attention because he has a disability, they can just say, you know what? Why don't you go see principal beat him, and he'll, uh, he'll smack the jitters right out of you. That's what's going to happen in the state of Oklahoma. Now, some of the Republicans who voted against this legislation to stop beating disabled children said that, well, we don't need it because the Oklahoma Department of Education actually has regulations saying you're not supposed to do it. Okay? We also have regulations saying that corporations aren't supposed to dump their toxic chemicals into the waterways,

But guess what? They do it, and then when they do it, because there are regulations, they have to pay a fine, and then they're on their way. It's not illegal, just like it's not illegal in Oklahoma to beat a kid with disabilities in school. It's just a regulation saying that you shouldn't, and if you do it, you, you gotta pay fine, maybe, depending on the circumstances, I'm sure. But again, if you enjoy beating the hell out of children, then Republicans in Oklahoma want you to know that they are open for business.
...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMZ0WvXZbPA
