Deadly right-wing extremist attacks on Muslims in India
Five people were killed, and over 60 others suffered injuries during attacks by Hindu nationalists from the paramilitary group National Volunteer Organization against Muslims in Haryana state. The violence later spread to the capital city of New Delhi, leaving behind a trail of devastation, including torched mosques.

“No one from the police or the government responded after they started stoning the area for at least four hours,” - said local Temple Priest Dal Chand in Nuh. He added, “Around 1,000 to 1,200 men came together, and they said: Demolish their temple, hit them and burn all their property.”

In the wake of the attacks, the government imposed curfews and shut down the internet in affected areas. Police, who according to reports did nothing to prevent the attacks, also patrolled the streets.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ruling Hindu nationalist party BJP, the situation for Muslims in India has become increasingly alarming. For the first time since independence in 1947, Muslims don’t have a single parliamentary representative in the ruling party despite making up more than 14% of India’s total population.

In 2019, the government enforced a law providing citizenship to all religious minorities, except Muslims from neighboring countries.

#India #Muslims #Haryana
...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCHHvAPZKag
