I support cryptocurrency. I dollar cost average into a few. I don't do videos on it much online, because there are plenty of channels with people who are more knowledgable in both crypto and finance doing that. I've looked at various cryptos, and right now I'm looking at Monero, but I haven't made up my mind on it. I budget money for crypto every month. It's a risk, and we are perpetually in the red. I believe it has enough benefit to me that I put money on it.<br /><br />However, the technology is not without significant problems. After a few conversations that treated BTC in a sort of salvific fashion, I thought I'd put up a video that explains why that's a very bad idea. Much of it has strong dystopian potential. Even if I grant the claims of privacy coins without question, crypto can pose as much a threat to people in the same way it offers promises. It's risky on every level.<br /><br />If we treat crypto as the counter-punch to institutions and an almost inevitable good, we are going to create a hell on earth with it. I want it to do good, so I think we should think about the damage it can do just as readily as the good. If we don't, then we will lose, and we will lose badly. Crypto is a tool. It's just a tool, and we shouldn't treat it any differently.
