WORLD'S LAST PASSENGER CV-580 FLIGHT Air Chathams Convair 580 Landing | Auckland Airport (AKL/NZAA)
The very last passenger service for the CV-580 in the world, operating as a special commemoration flight to New Zealand’s Chatham Islands via Wellington return. ZK-CIB has had a magnificent career having first flown in July 1953, originally as a CV-340, prior to its delivery to Union Producing Company. In 1955, it sustained major fire damage in Shreveport, Louisiana and was subsequently re-built by Convair, returning to service in 1956. It later served many other airlines and went through a conversion phase in the late 1960s to become the renowned CV-580. It suffered one further accident which was quickly repaired and eventually on 26 May 1996 ZK-CIB officially touched down in Auckland, New Zealand for the first time after Air Chathams made the purchase from Kelowna Flightcraft. The ferry route to Auckland was from Kelowna via Honolulu and Pago Pago. Throughout its last 25 years, it went through one last major change and that was its purpose in the Air Chathams fleet as a combi since Air Chathams operate regular cargo services with a range of aircraft. Following this final passenger service on 15 August 2021, ZK-CIB remained as a freighter until 17 September 2021, firing up on one last service from Invercargill to Auckland.
Its future is currently unknown but there is quite an urge from Air Chathams for it to be put on display in a museum, particularly the museum in the planning stage of the “Bring Our Birds Home” initiative which will see it retire indefinitely from flying in Wanaka.
ENJOY!

******AIRCRAFT INFORMATION******

Airline: Air Chathams
Aircraft: Convair CV-580
Reg #: ZK-CIB
Manufacturer: Convair
Engines: 2x Allison 501
Origin: 3C0529 from Chatham Islands Tuuta (CHT) via Wellington (WLG)

***Filmed on 15 August 2021 NZST***

EQUIPMENT USED
Camera: Panasonic GH5
Lens: Panasonic Lumix (Leica) DG Vario-Elmarit 100-400mm f/4-6.3 ASPH
Microphone: Rode Videomic Pro+
Tripod head: Manfrotto Nitrotech 608
Tripod legs: Manfrotto 536 - MPRO Carbon Fiber
Half ball: Manfrotto 500BALL 100mm

Social media
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MiJiTHD
Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/MiJiTHD
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mijit_hd_photos

Also check out
My Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/MiJiTHD
My Playlists: https://www.youtube.com/user/MiJiTHD/playlists

MiJiT HD COPYRIGHT 2021.
