Watch this before you nap or meditate. Calm, relaxing cave temple ambience from Marble Mountain, Vietnam, recorded in binaural stereo.<br /><br />I sneak away to Marble Mountain for a few hours before typhoon Vamco makes landfall. This stone outcrop juts out from the flat Da Nang landscape, and is filled with mysterious caves, temples, shrines and...mosquitoes! (be sure to cover every inch with a strong repellent)<br /><br />It's late afternoon, just before the storm, and I think I might be the only visitor left. It's winter, so there aren't many domestic tourists in town. And it's still Plague Time, so the borders are closed to international travel. The ability to explore, film and record sound without anyone around is something I will not likely ever experience again. Imagine what this video would be like if there were a bunch of people in it, taking selfies? <br /><br />It's just me, and the birds who live in the caves. You can hear their wings fluttering as they take flight from their cave perches. Wing beats, water dripping and the background sounds of the city beyond -- all echoing through the caves. I hope you'll take a moment to put on earphones to really get the full experience. <br /><br />I could stay for hours in that single cave, listening, watching the light reflect off of the water, the statues, only to be swallowed by the dark recesses of the smooth stone walls. But it's getting late, and I have many (precarious!) stairs to climb to get back down. And the mosquitoes have discovered me in earnest. <br /><br />But I will be back to explore further and show you more of this incredible place. It's only a 7 minute drive from my house.
