6th Grade Math 13.1b, Finding the Area of a Trapezoid
A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with at least one pair of opposite sides that are parallel. If we fit two trapezoids together, they'll form a parallelogram. This means that the area of the trapezoid is half the area of that parallelogram. Sometimes in math, we'll see a small number to the lower right side of a variable or number. The small numbers are called subscripts and can help us differentiate between variables of the same letter. We see how subscripts are used in the formula for the area of a trapezoid as base 1 and base 2. We compare the formula for area of a parallelogram to the formula for the area of a trapezoid. We see two examples of how to find the area of a trapezoid from given data in a diagram or in word form.

This video and its contents are the property of JoAnn's School and
is protected under U.S. copyright law.
