RV stabilizers, should you build the DIY version or buy the commercial option?<br /><br />I was looking to stabilize my RV a bit more than the standard stabilizers and found both a commercial version from Valterra and a DIY version using 2x4 boards that was significantly less expensive to make - but I had no clue which performed better. <br /><br />So I decided to install both and test them out while jumping side to side within the RV.<br /><br />I used a gyroscope app on my phone and a spirit level to visually compare the amount of lateral movement as I jumped side to side within the RV. The gyroscope ended up being completely unnecessary because it was absolutely clear on the spirit level that the DIY version stabilized the trailer significantly better than the Valterra stabilizers.<br /><br />Although the DIY 2x4 version performed better and is cheaper to make it does have its downfalls:<br />1. The legs are not adjustable so you may get different performance based on different locations and differences in how level the ground is<br />2. The 2x4’s are heavier than the all aluminum Valetrra stabilizers and do not fold up as small for storage<br />3.
