**8/9th December 2001**<br /><br />I turned 18 at midnight, the night of the first E, and some of the most influential and classic dnb tunes ever made, there was the enthusiasm of youth and this rave inspired me to produce. The sanctuary was also one of the most historical rave venues in the UK which was sadly knocked down sometime in the mid 2000s.<br /><br />_________<br /><br />My mate managed to get a birthday shoutout for me at 12 from the MC, I can't remember who the MC was (i will soon) but that was the best birthday present. It meant the world to me. That small group of friends that raved with me, were my people.<br />_________<br /><br />I also remember, about 20 minutes before midnight, i was at the bar about to order a lager, and some brick shithouse, twice my size, decided to take an interest in me (they hide at the back and sides and don't dance) well, i was a little careless with showing my £20 note, and he tried to snatch it out of my hand. Trouble for him was, i held that note tightly and he tried to force it from my hand but i held it so tight, then i stared into his dead eyes and said "i'm sorry mate, but i am turning 18 in 20 minutes and this is my last money, so you can beat the living shit out of me, but you ain't getting this last £20 from me, not tonight" he let go, i could sense a hint of guilt, then he fucked off and i went back to ordering my drink, and returned to the dancefloor.<br /><br />_________________<br /><br />I remember going to the last ever rave at the sanctuary, can't remember the year, maybe 2004 or 2005. From 2001 we went about 3 or 4 times a year until it closed. I do wish i had lived through the legendary jungle and first born dnb nights there throughout the 90s.
