In The Mode (2002) - II: Dorian
I was 17 when I recorded these pieces of music.

Studying A-level Music taught me a lot about classical music and I guess this is my sort-of take on a Baroque suite. Had I have not had the perfect names for each improvisation already, they would have probably been put into some sort of order and called Prelude, Allemande, Sarabande, Gigue, etc

A few years prior to this I played bass in local dance-band Langestt Dance Orchestra (LDO) and regularly played songs like Glenn Miller's 'In The Mood'. Hence the pun. Naturally.

Listening back to them thirteen years on and being a teacher of music myself now it's nice to hear that even through the mistakes of improvising, I think the general characteristic of each mode came out. I was obsessed by dark music at the time and I remember Phrygian and Locrian being a lot of fun to record.

It also reminds me of the times when I was obsessed with trying to make track lengths round up to the full minute. Wow. Just wow.
...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOCuaNhdbvQ
