Regrinding a Rick Hinderer XM 18
The XM-18 is kind of a classic among knife collectors and users, but it has some well known and recognized faults. One of those is the grind, which favors strength over slicing ability in its factory state. One of the services I offer in customization is regrinding, I don't do it for all knives and frankly, given the risk, I don't like to do it all the time. However when this customer's XM-18 came in for customization work, he gave me a budget and told me to do whatever I wanted to the knife. I chose to use the budget to improve aspects of the knife that I thought needed a little tweaking, so I did a full regrind to thin out the edge and make it a better slicer. This video shows how I did it. CAUTION: unless you're a highly skilled grinder like I am, DO NOT do this on your own knife. You will ruin a very expensive and otherwise excellent piece of cutlery. If you would like this done to your knife you're free to email me at [email protected], however I should say that I will not be taking many of these jobs, only as many as my already busy schedule allows, so please don't be suprised or offended if I say no.
...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI0odlqj5AU
