Marcion, a heretic who founded a Gnostic Church in Rome in 144 AD, held beliefs that posed a threat to the early Christian community. <br />He rejected the writings of the Old Testament and taught that Christ was not the Son of the God of the Jews, but the Son of a different, good God. <br />Marcion sought to create a Christianity free from any association with Judaism, considering the Old Testament to be scandalous and incompatible with the New Covenant.
