It was an editorial piece on how flying an American flag on your lawn or pickup truck is a "sign, albeit subtle" that the owner is racist / unintelligent / etc.<br /><br />How could I not think of all those that died to protect that newspaper's editorial writer? The soldiers who were filled with bullets on the beaches in WWII. Those falling out of the twin towers to their deaths. The countless frozen bodies of American troops in the revolution and Civil war.<br /><br />And now: the very symbol of their sacrifice is stigmatized as being in some way anti-American. On July 4th when Instagram trending stickers are expressing vitriol for the very founding of America.<br /><br />While walking around Princeton NJ, I had a realization about why those that have such a short sighted view of history and who have no appreciation for the sacrifices of those around them tend to be the most unhappy and spiteful.
