Shooting 950nm Infrared - Initial tests
When my full spectrum modified Z5 arrived, I had overcast weather for the next 2 weeks, so I couldn't really test out my filters. When I had my first sunny day, I grabbed my camera and 950nm filter and went out for a long photo walk.

This was my first time ever using an infrared camera in the field, so this is a collection of my initial tests and experiments while I figured out what this camera and filter combination can do for me.

I didn't know how to set custom white balance profiles and tried to get by with only the 'degrees Kelvin' WB mode, resulting in the blue cyanotype look of this video.

Overall, I would recommend 850nm over 950nm in most cases, as the effect is similar but the general process is more forgiving.

This is a rather affordable infrared filter from a brand called "Zomei", costing about $30 compared to the $200-$300 for a name-brand IR filter from a local store.

_________________________________________

http://kyleclements.com
...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9WFP4Lx-bc
