Dharti vi arjoyian kardi haali paali nu
Dharti vi arjoyian kardi haali paali nu Sun hik sardi meri ve naa saad paraali nu
Lyrics by Jasveer Sohal
Singar Jagdish Pappra, Lehragaga .
Production assistance : Trivani Media, Chandigarh
Kheti Virasat Mission has undertaken a holistric campaign against Straw Burning. Under this campaign KVM is producing a series of motivational songs on the issue with the aim to reachout farmers.
The problem of straw burning is a persistent issue and without farmer’s involvement, sustainable solutions cannot be found. Technology would not be of much help unless it’s accessible and available to the farmers, again it would be an expensive affair. This particular issue has multiple dimensions, local and community based solutions should be given. The harvesting of paddy in the month of October and November worsens the air quality every year especially in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
Crop residue burning kills soil microbes, leads to loss of nutrients, destroys bird nests, pollutes air, causes respiratory problems and gives rise to road accidents. The natural manure/crop residue, that can give nutrients back to the soil, gets burnt for no reason and is a carrier to the large number of economic, social, ecological, health and psychological issues. Burning of crop residue brings an extra burden to the farmers as they put synthetic fertilizers to the soil which is environmentally harmful. Farmers have social and mental turbulence also about burning or not burning the crop residue as most of the farmers know that straw burning is harmful in all cases but they feel helpless and find no other way to manage the crop residue than burning. Burning crop residue is the cheapest way to manage straw economically and economic factors are considered on priority basis. Farmers would have to change the practice of straw burning and need to take a sustainable and ecological approach otherwise there is no way out from this vicious cycle.
...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVAOoodw0y4
