Hiking the Grand Canyon - Rim to Rim HIKE in One Day
This ia a video of hiking the Grand Canyon, Rim to Rim in one day. We went down the Kaibab trail and up the Bright Angel trail.

At 4am, we began hiking down the South Kaibab Trail. We reached the Colorado River around 10:00 and the hiked along the river to the Bright Angel Trail. Around 12:30 we started up the Bright Angel Trail. We emerged from the canyon around 9:00pm.

Most of this video is the South Kaibab Trail.

They say you shouldn't hike rim to rim in one day.
It is quite possible to do it if you have enough water, food and SALT. I did not bring enough salt and I had a really hard time from Indian Gardens to the top. Salt in the form of Fritos or chips or anything with salt on them would have helped.

That classic rule of staying with your hiking partner was broken at the beginning of the Bright Angel Trail.
My buddy said if I would like to walk a head, go for it, so I did.

I came to a bathroom and thought I would duck in for a minute or two. When I came out, I back tracked to where I left my buddy and he wasn't there. I figured maybe he had past the restrooms and so I trotted up the Bright Angel for a while, but I did not see him. So I trotted back again, only this time going a bit further to where I had last seen him. I did not see him so I trotted further up the Bright Angel Trail until I could see a good stretch of it, but I did not see him.

At this point I thought that he may have fallen off a cliff where I last saw him, so I trotted all the way back to where I had originally been with him and looked over the cliff. I did not see him.

By now, I was pretty tired from running around and the adrenaline was surging. I figured I had to get out of the canyon so I just started up the Bright Angel Trail alone.

When I got to Indian Gardens, there sat my buddy.

As it turned out, when he did not see me at the rest room, he sped up assuming I had gone ahead. I was running back and forth at the bottom of the canyon looking for him as he was walking to Indian Gardens.

I used any reserve I may have had running around looking for him and as a result had a REALLY hard time walking out.

I had protected myself from the sun with proper clothing, I had ample water and food. I did not bring enough salty items.

Another suggestion would be to bring a variety of food, Gorp, nuts and raisins get really old after 12 hours.

One big thing to know at Indian Gardens is that it is infested with squirrels that creep up on you from all directions trying to get the trail mix in your pack. It is unnerving and a real pain. The only solution would be to stop before or after Indian Gardens.
...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yon9E5qhhbQ
