Controlling Plex with Amazon Alexa<br /><br /> 1. Open the web browser and go to Plex.tv<br /> a. Select your Plex Media server<br /> b. Click on Settings<br /> c. Click on Remote Access<br /> d. Click on Enable Remote Access<br /> e. If this fails, you will need to manually allow port forwarding on your firewall to mention the port specified on the Plex.TV screen<br /> i. You can manually specified a port as well<br /> 2. Go to alexa.amazon.com<br /> a. Click on Skills<br /> b. Search for Plex<br /> c. Link your Plex account to Alexa<br /> 3. Have the Plex app open on your streaming receiver<br /> 4. Ask Alexa to "Ask Plex to Play (Name of Show or Movie)"<br /> 5. If you get prompted to about setting a default video player, Say Yes to the question<br /> 6. If at some point you are asked about setting default player<br /> a. Answer yes<br /> b. You will probably need to repeat your command and the show should start playing<br /><br /><br />This has been tested using Echo and Dash Wand as control sources and the Roku Premier+ as the streaming receiver. The Echo seems to have an easier time getting Plex to play some shows or movies than Dash Wand does. I have run into one show with a series of periods or dots in the name of the Show. Alexa/Plex has a problem with finding the show to play it.<br /><br />For this to work, you must have the Plex player open on your streaming media device.
