Sen. Joe Manchin appeared on @CNN and complained about some of the basics of his job: helping get other Democratic Party candidates elected, and working with Republicans who your party members may be running against. He calls it a "hostile work environment." Which, frankly, is an insane insult to people working in really hostile environments for extremely low wages who are unable to quit for whatever reason. He thinks that it's a hostile work environment. He has really a hard time coming into work every day. So one would think, you know, that would lead you to believe that really just terrible things were happening to him. Terrible things that happen to workers in work environments on a daily basis who are not necessarily given the money or the prestige or the power that Joe Manchin has. Here he is complaining about that dynamic to CNN:<br />Joe Manchin: You wanna know what's wrong with the place? I go to work in a hostile working environment every day. If you're a Democrat and the Republican is up for election, you're supposed to be against that person. If Donald Duck's running against that person, you're supposed to give money from your PAC to help the other person beat the person that you've been working with, and even sometimes they'll say can you come campaign again. Then we come back on Monday, and here's the person that we've given money against, and here's the person that we're supposed to basically go out and work against saying, "Hey, uh, could you sign on this amendment for me? Could you work with me on this amendment?" <br />Matt Binder: What is he complaining that he has to work to make sure his party wins elections and then wondering how he's supposed to do that while also having to work bipartisanly with Republicans? That's the most bizarre thing I've ever heard in my life.
