(Shigetaka Kurita). He worked for this company called NTT Docomo a Japanese Telecom Company. <br /><br />The company wanted to find the way to make its pager service, it was the 90’s by the way, different from the other companies. <br /><br />So, this guy, (Shigetaka Kurita), decided to add simplistic cartoon images as part of the pager’s functions to appeal to teens. <br /><br />Using paper and pencil, Kurita drew the first batch of emoji’s using a 12 by 12-pixel grid. His designs were inspired by manga and kanji.
