US and Russia Trade Barbs At Arctic Council Meeting <br /><br />Both Russia and the US voiced concerns over increasing military activity in the arctic this week, with Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, questioning NATO's motives in deploying bombers and submarines to the area, while the US’s secretary of state Anthony Blinked said that increased militarisation “undermined the shared goal of a peaceful and sustainable future for the region”. <br /><br /><br />2. US Waives Some Nord Stream 2 Sanctions<br /><br />The Biden administration has waived sanctions on a company overseeing the building of the geopolitically controversial Nord stream two pipelines this week, in a move reportedly aimed at repairing relations with Germany.
