7th Grade Math 3.3a, Subtracting Positive Rational Numbers, Number Lines
We have learned that on a horizontal number line, the positive direction is to the right and the negative directions to the left. On a vertical number line, the positive is up, and the negative is down. We can use subtraction of a positive number to represent a decrease. To subtract a positive rational number on a number line, we start at a point for the first number (minuend) and draw an arrow moving in the negative direction for the second number (subtrahend), to the left. Adding a negative is the same as subtracting a positive. We show examples of using a number line to find the difference for subtracting a positive number. We show how we can draw our number line to fit the equation. We review how the Commutative Property does not work for subtraction.

7th Grade Math Course
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKi4WTp6PRGWxBDwfqly2mFnLNfpAU8UV

This video and its contents are the property of JoAnn's School and
is protected under U.S. copyright law.
